What is a domain transfer?

A domain transfer is the process of moving your domain from one registrar to another. The registrar is responsible for maintaining the reservation of your domain name, an the associated IP address mappings (DNS) to it. Fun fact: You don't actually own your domain, the registry does. You are simply leasing it, which is why there's a 10 year max on registrations.
